Vanessa Stasio - MS RDN CDN

Vanessa Stasio is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and New York State Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist who holds a Master’s in Nutrition Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She brings her vast interest and experience in nutrition, food and wellness to Nutrition Energy. Her interest, which was initially sparked as a teenager when Vanessa began researching and applying basic principles of healthy eating and active living to her own life to improve her health, has only grown with time. Over the years, as Vanessa’s passion for the field of nutrition deepened, she boldly chose to leave her career in the world of finance and business to pursue graduate education in nutrition and professional credentialing as a dietitian in order to do what she loves: work one-on-one with clients to empower them to improve their diets and cultivate a nourishing relationship with food.

Having formerly worked in high-pressure professional environments, Vanessa understands the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle amidst busy schedules, wavering motivation, social pressures, and other considerations. She is uniquely qualified to provide insights on the business side of healthy living given her professional experience in the corporate world. She is experienced and adept at helping others overcome these obstacles through practical, effective means. Vanessa believes that eating well and being active are powerful ways to choose to live a fuller, more satisfying life through improved physical, mental and emotional health.

Vanessa has dietetics experience in a variety of different settings. She received clinical training in nutrition at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and has previously counseled clients at Gay Men’s Health Crisis, Mary Manning Walsh Home and as a private practitioner. She specializes in weight management, sports nutrition, diabetes and eating disorders. With an in-depth understanding of nutrition and wellness, she takes time to truly get to know her clients. Vanessa helps her clients achieve their goals by working together to devise actionable, attainable strategies toward eating better and living healthier lives.

In addition to her work at Nutrition Energy, Vanessa works as a nutrition consultant advising international food industry clients on communications and social media strategies. Vanessa also works with restaurants and other food service establishments, assisting with menu nutritional analysis, recipe development, and customer relations. She currently serves as the in-house nutritionist/dietitian for healthy pizza chain, Skinnypizza. Additionally, she is a regular contributor to the Olive Oil Times and writes a nutrition column for Skinnygirl Daily entitled Food For Thought.  You can follow her on Twitter @vanessastasio.

Vanessa loves staying active in New York City. As an athlete, she is keenly aware that diet and physical activity are intrinsically linked. Vanessa is in an avid runner, having raced 5Ks and, most recently, a half marathon. Vanessa also regularly practices yoga and frequently tries new fitness classes, from high intensity interval training to pilates to rowing. She also loves baking and cooking and is always up to the challenge of making any recipe a bit healthier, even if that means disguising chickpeas in the form of dessert.

Vanessa’s nutrition philosophy is grounded in a highly individualized approach where she encourages open communication and fosters self-awareness and empowerment in her clients. She considers her relationship with each of her clients as a collaboration; she looks to fully understand his or her unique nutrition needs, preferences, lifestyles and goals. Vanessa believes that eating is a very personal, meaningful experience and aims to find the best possible ways to help clients eat healthfully within the context of their own lives rather than taking a “one-size-fits-all” approach. She feels that there is no perfect diet, and that ascribing to a healthy lifestyle implies striving for balance, moderation and mindfulness. Vanessa has always felt a calling to nutrition counseling and feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to help others live healthier lives.
