Our Services
At Nutrition Energy, our team of Registered Dietitians offer a range of services to help you reach your goals. We will work with you to identify what current eating, lifestyle and training/movement habits are working for you, which are wasting your precious time and energy and can be let go of and what is holding you back. From there, we will help you create and implement new shopping, cooking, planning, eating and/or movement patterns as appropriate, and overall simplify your life, improve your enjoyment of eating (yes, eating should be pleasurable and something we look forward to!), and finally let go of old habits and guilt around food and eating.
Our knowledge and background are deeply steeped in science; our Director, Lauren Antonucci, holds a BS in Psychobiology, an MS in Clinical Nutrition and did a fellowship in Nutritional Biochemistry at Berkeley, or more simply put, she studied the brain in college and the gut in grad school, and combines that knowledge as well as her 20+ years of clinical experience to help each individual client make lasting changes based on what we know about how the human brain and body work, while sifting through all of the Diet Culture BS, letting go of guilt/shame/beliefs that are no longer serving us and truly enjoy what we eat and how we feel!

FAQ Regarding Insurance Coverage for Nutritional Counseling
Q. Do you accept my health insurance for nutritional counseling?
A. Many health insurance companies now cover nutritional counseling. This can be true either if you have an actual medical diagnosis that necessitates nutrition counseling OR even if you do not, but want to come in for nutrition counseling or for prevention of a disease.
Q. Which insurance plans do you accept?
A. We are currently in-network with Cigna and will submit the claim on your behalf. Once we receive the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from Cigna, both you and our office will be notified of what your insurance has paid and what your remaining balance is (if any). Any outstanding balance, as determined by Cigna, will be charged to the credit card on file, and a receipt will be emailed to you.
We can provide you with a Superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement should you not have Cigna as your insurance provider.
Q. How can I check if I will be covered for my appointment with my Nutrition Energy Dietitian?
A. You can check to see if your insurance policy will cover the visits by calling the 800 number on the back of your insurance card and asking to speak with a representative.
Please follow the steps below when speaking with the representative to help ensure you get accurate information as to whether you insurance will cover the cost of nutrition counseling for your visit.
Q. What should I ask when calling my insurance company?
-
Do I have Medical Nutrition Therapy coverage on my insurance plan?
If the insurance company asks for a CPT code, please provide them with the following codes: 99205 and 99215.
Q. How can I check whether my "reason for treatment" will be covered?
If the representative asks for a diagnosis code – please use Z71.3 and/or Z82.49.
If applicable, you may give these conditions as well: overweight, obesity, pre-diabetes, diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol.
We can bill your visit using "preventative benefit" coding to maximize the number of visits you receive from your insurance carrier.
Q. How many visits will I have per calendar year?
A. Your carrier will let you know how many visits they are willing to cover. Depending on the carrier the number of visits vary from 0 to unlimited depending on medical need.
Q What about my deductible?
A. In the event you have a deductible I will not be able to initially bill your insurance company directly. Therefore, payment is due at the initial visit and each follow up visit until your deductible has been met.
-
I will provide you will the appropriate documentation to submit to your insurance company to show receipt of the services. This will allow you to “pay down” your deductible. Once your deductible has been met and you have nutrition services on your policy, I can then directly bill your insurance company.
Q. Will I have a co-pay for nutritional counseling?
-
Dietitians are considered a specialist. Therefore, your specialist co-pay is applicable and is payable at the time of service. This information is often apparent on the front of your actual insurance card. However, when we can bill your insurance with preventative counseling the co-pay is often not applicable. If there is any doubt as to whether you do have a co-pay, we will wait until your insurance carrier has processed your claim and let’s us know whether you have a co-pay then charge the credit card you have on file with us the co-pay amount.
Q. I see you are based in New York State. I live in another state or country, can I still work with one of the Dietitians at Nutrition Energy?
Please refer to this map using this link: https://www.eatrightpro.org/advocacy/licensure/licensure-map regarding reciprocity with the Dietitian Nutritionist credential. We can see you if you live in a green, yellow or grey state.
