Body Fat Testing

Free body fat testing is provided for all clients of Nutrition Energy upon initial evaluation. Thereafter, body fat testing is used as a periodic assessment of alterations in body composition due to changes in diet, training and body weight.

While it is important to remember that top athletes are not always the leanest in their sport, and a low percent body fat does not guarantee success, body fat is one indicator of overall health, and a factor in many sports. Periodic body fat testing will help you determine what body fat level is associated with your best performance and health.

All body fat testing is done using skin fold calipers, which is the most widely used and most convenient technique available.

Metabolic Rate Testing

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing is now available at Nutrition Energy. It is used to determine your specific daily caloric requirements, and is crucial in deciphering the number calories you need each day to lose, maintain or gain weight. Your RMR changes with weight loss/gain, athletic training cycles and alteration of muscle mass. This service is available by appointment at Nutrition Energy, as a stand-alone resource, or in conjunction with nutritional counseling.

Testing and analyzing your individual metabolic rate gives you the exact measurement you need to succeed in your weight control efforts and athletic performance. Traditional Metabolic Rate Formula estimates can be off by as much as 500 calories per day (the amount of calories it takes to gain or lose a pound per week). Individuals who struggle with their weight often have a metabolic rate that is far from typical, which makes estimating calorie needs for weight loss practically impossible. Athletes' metabolic rates are often far from average due to variations in muscle mass, leading to difficulty with weight loss or inadequate refueling during and post workouts.

Metabolic Rate and weight loss:

Everyone has a unique metabolic rate

Scientific studies show that even people of similar height, weight, age, and body composition can have very different metabolic rates

Testing your metabolic rate allows you to know the number of calories you can eat each day in order to achieve your weight loss goal, gain weight properly, or maintain your current health.

Knowing your Zones will prevent you from eating TOO LITTLE while dieting, which causes your body to store fat rather than lose extra pounds.
